Am I ready to progress to an intermediate class? 

A common question we get asked from clients is ‘when am I ready to progress from the beginner class to the intermediate classes?’. 

We want you to feel comfortable to attend all classes and ensuring you are booking in classes that suit your needs best.

Some clients come to classes based on the class time that is most convenient and doesn’t have anything to do the class type. However, if you are purposely avoiding a class type, we wanted to explain the progression and the wide range of classes available.

Beginner Pilates Classes

The beginner classes are a great starting point to build your foundation of choreography, transitions, changing your own equipment and keeping pace as well as building your confidence with basic Pilates moves. 

The beginner classes focus on foundation exercises and will move at a slower pace, these classes should absolutely, still be challenging. There is a misconception that beginner classes are 'easy', they shouldn't be easy. The movement is simplified but you should still be getting a really beneficial workout. If you are finding your classes easy then please communicate this with your instructor as perhaps they can offer a progression/variation or you either need to increase or decrease your springs for exercises and then you're ready to give the intermediate and HIIT classes a go.

Changing up to Intermediate and HIIT

If you have been attending the beginner classes for 3 months plus or you are feeling confident changing your equipment you would be more than capable, and we highly encourage to trial both the Intermediate classes as well as the HIIT classes. This is a great way to keep progressing in Pilates, challenging your body and build muscle. The intermediate and HIIT classes will incorporate more exercises, different springs and equipment and is generally a more moderate to fast pace class. It is up to the instructor to modify not just for injury’s and pregnancy but also for ability.

All Levels Pilates Classes

The All levels classes and exactly that. It’s a class encompassing all ability’s and every single body is welcome in this class. This class structure has many levels for each exercise which gives each client the ability to chose which level you feel comfortable with

For those who have been doing Pilates for a long time, it’s also a great idea to go back and do a beginner class to really slow it down and refocus back to the foundations of Pilates.

With all that said challenge yourself this week to try a different class you haven’t done before or haven’t done in a long time.
