Benefits of a 1:1 Pilates Session

Whenever I’m talking with a new client to the studio, it’s a question that always comes up. What’s the point of paying the extra cashola for a 1:1 when you can join in on group classes for a fraction of the price?

Firstly, I want to be clear that a 1:1 should never just be a group class with you as the solo attendee. Private sessions are a valuable way for you to dive deep into the way your body moves…and the ways it doesn’t like to move so much. As you build a relationship with your teacher and they get to know more about your movement patterns, they can discover the very best exercises to challenge you and get real results for you.

So what can you expect when booking your first 1:1 session?

You’ll tell us about your story and what has bought you to our door and the goals you’d like to achieve through these sessions.  Next, you’ll be asked some relevant questions so that we can find out which teacher will complement your needs best.

•       Are you experiencing some persistent pain?

•       Are you finding certain movements challenging or difficult?

•       Would you like to increase flexibility or strength in certain areas of your body?

•       Are you recovering from an injury or illness or surgery?

•       Do you play a sport and Pilates could assist in balancing and strengthening to keep you at your peak performance?

•       Do you love Pilates and want to practice more technical movements that aren’t taught in group classes?

How does a private Pilates session work for you?

During your first session, your teacher will be assessing your movements to see where you’re at with your range of motion (ROM) and strength, so that they can work with you to balance and improve areas that may be restricted or weak. They’ll take you through a range of Pilates exercises on various Pilates apparatus to determine this.

I would say there are 3 groups of people attending private sessions at any time:

1.     Someone recovering from injury or pain who is wanting to get back into group classes and regular activities they enjoy

2.     Someone that gets so much out of 1:1 sessions (i.e. keeps them pain-free and feeling good) that they will continue them indefinitely and perhaps do some group sessions as well

3.     Someone who does a periodic ‘top-up’ every month or so when the restriction or pain rear their ugly head

From my experience, working closely with someone during 1:1 sessions can take you down a rabbit hole of strange and interesting discoveries! If you feel like your body has some mysteries waiting to be unlocked, reach out to us to book in your first 1:1 session.

You can book private sessions through our app and on the bookings page, or contact the studio to find out more.
