Pilates for Triathletes, With Travis Coleman

Travis Coleman, Professional Triathlete on the Gold Coast uses Pilates for body maintenance and injury prevention. At Pilates & Co we have worked on his shoulder stability and core engagement specific to ocean swimming, which has seen him now exit the water with the top guys.

Having just won back-to-back wins in the Queensland Tri Series, Travis is complementing his training schedule with 2 group reformer classes a week, and Small Group when he can.

We wanted to get to know this cheeky guy a little better, so sat down with him to get the low down.

Tell us about Travis Coleman:

I’ve spent 25 years earth side, 5 years vegan, 3 years professional triathlete, 2 x champion of Stradbroke triathlon, winner of Kawana Waters, Raby Bay & Robina triathlon just to name a few.

 A passionate environmentalist, animal lover and explorer.

What does your weekly training regime include: 

Monday: 6km pool swim, gym session, yoga

Tuesday: 20km bike & 5km run both will hill reps, 2km ocean swim, Pilates, yoga

Wednesday: 8km run interval & 50km bike intervals, gym session, yoga

Thursday: 4 mini triathlons (150m swim, 5km bike, 1km run), Pilates, yoga

Friday: 6km pool swim, easy 4km jog, gym, yoga

Saturday: 120km bike, yoga 

Sunday:  20km run, yoga

How do you recover:

With lots of yoga, meditation, naps, food and plenty of time getting massages at Osteozone and relaxing in at P3 Recovery Centre.

What has been your career highlight so far:

Being able to travel to amazing places like Mexico, Amsterdam, New Zealand and Tasmania plus having random people of all ages from children to people 3 times my age saying they’ve been inspired to start running or riding or swimming or just getting out of their comfort zone by seeing me do what I love to do.

What attracted you to Pilates:

I was looking for an extra little 1% over my competition 

What's your favourite Pilates move: 

Surprisingly the 100’s because I get to feel great core engagement and shoulder stability for my swimming. 

Favourite food: 

LOCO LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!!

What hobbies do you have outside of your training: 

Surfing, skating, mountain biking and going on long bush hikes getting lost

What are your goals for 2022 and beyond:

To be able to travel more with racing and have a strong positive impact on more people.

It would go against the vegan rule book if I didn’t tell you I’m vegan ;) hahaha
